Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg Reveals His No. 1 Rule For Hiring

"The most important thing is to keep your team as small as possible," he said. "[Facebook] serves more than a billion people around the world, but our team has fewer than 10,000 people. It’s only possible because of modern technology. Big companies get bloated."

For comparison, Google had about 53,600 employees as of 2014, and Apple has approximately 98,000. Facebook consists of about 9,200 full-time employees.

While divulging his unique strategy, Zuckerberg emphasizes that it is important to "just have faith in yourself and trust yourself."

"When you’re young you hear that you don’t have experience to do things, that there are people that have more experience than you," he said. "I started Facebook when I was 19."

While the Facebook brand name is most recognized as the most widely used social media platform in the world with over 1.23 billion monthly active users, it is important to remember that the business owns several other organizations both small and large. Some of the most notable company names Facebook has acquired along the way include Instagram, Oculus VR, and WhatsApp.

All this has made Zuckerberg the fourteenth wealthiest person on the planet with a net worth of about $35.5 billion according to Forbes, and the only person on the Forbes top 20 richest billionaires list who is in his 30s.

"Don’t discount yourself, no matter what you're doing," he said. "Everyone has a unique perspective that they can bring to the world."
