The 4 New Wi-Fi Standards Solution Providers Need To Know

The Need To Accommodate Speed

The Wi-Fi Alliance is expanding its wireless 802.11ac certification program for modern devices, requiring new products to support faster speeds and routers to improve the simultaneous handling of multiple devices.

Solution providers should rejoice as the new specifications to gain Wi-Fi Certified accreditation from the organization will force vendors to make faster and more efficient 802.11ac Wave 2 products that customers are seeking as traffic from mobile data skyrockets.

According to the 2016 Cisco Visual Network Index Global Mobile Data Traffic report, global mobile data traffic grew 74 percent from 2014 to 2015. The report says roughly 560 million mobile devices and connections were added in 2015.

The international non-profit Wi-Fi Alliance promotes wireless technology and certifies wireless products if they abide by certain standards. Alliance sponsors include Apple, Cisco, Comcast, Dell, Microsoft, Samsung and Sony. Here are four key new specifications being implemented to bring higher performance, speed and capacity to Wi-Fi networks.
