How Dimension Data Brings New Viewing Experience To Tour de France

The Tour de France will be the first race at which Dimension Data will unveil all of these capabilities, and before the race, Foster predicted, "Once we have 198 riders on the road simultaneously transmitting data, we are going to learn a lot very quickly."

The public will be able to see the new features Dimension Data is bringing to the race incrementally as the race goes on. Foster said his team wants to bring all of its services to the public as quickly as possible, but also wants to make sure the data they are presenting is fit for its purpose and 100 percent accurate.

During the tour, he said, the cumulative global TV audience is 3.5 billion people and the team hopes to be able to provide absolute certainty of the position of each individual rider at every point in the race.

Foster added that Dimension Data is "hugely excited" to be involved with the largest annual sporting event in the world. He added, "We want to bring the true capabilities of our organization to perform and showcase our capabilities in big data analytics, cloud, security, the internet of things, because of all the data points we are managing."

This year, Dimension data is sponsoring the nine-man wild card team, Team MTN-Qhubeka which is representing Africa this year in the race.
